Recently I had the opportunity to interview Trent Lecky from ‘Mate Industries’, Trent owns the trademark for ‘Mate’.

It’s a great interview where Trent openly shares his journey of entrepreneurship so far and how he secured the trademark for ‘Mate’.

Listen to the interview and I hope you learn from Trent’s journey.
  • Mate shirts are made in Melbourne.
  • The company uses a local screen printer.
  • Stubby coolers and stickers are produced locally.

The point being for Trent are that all the ‘Mate’ branded products are Australian made.

“The trademark is the pinnacle, if you own that everything else can come later.” Trent Lecky

Points to take away:
  1. Secure a trademark first  - before you start the business!
  2. Watch for infringements.
  3. Don’t let your trademark be associated with products or services that don’t align with your brand.

“If you don’t own the trademark rights whether it’s a service you’re providing or a product then look for something else” Trent Lecky

Trent ,rightly so, defines ‘Mate’ as a ‘stand out’ brand, and his journey so far is only the beginning.

You can find out more or buy products from ‘Mate’ at:
